In the Hohenstaufen century between 1138 and 1268, all of Europe underwent far reaching processes of change and restructuring, which transformed the world view: New artistic activities and forms of expression evolved, a flourishing culture of knowledge arose, courtly life developed undreamed of pomp and grandeur and ecclesiastical structures were reformed. Economic conditions changed radically too. The nine Hohenstaufen monarchs Conrad III, Frederick I Barbarossa, Philipp of Swabia, Frederick II, Henry VI, Henry (VII), Conrad IV, Conradin and Manfred played an important part in this.
